Learning Journey Family Sessions, Kites and Pancakes!

It was lovely to see so many grown ups at our Learning Journey Family Session.

We made kites, tested them and talked about how they could be even better.

We walked to the shop in the snow to buy the ingredients for pancakes. We wrote a list, counted our money, bought the ingredients and made the pancakes just like Mr Wolf in our story.

After school, we had a Bedtime Story Time. We dressed in our cosy clothes, listened to stories and had hot chocolate and biscuits. Yum!

Visitors

Mr Rubio came to talk to us about Colombia and Mrs Hunt came to talk to us about The Philippines. We learned that in both countries, Spanish is spoken and we tried to learn a few words. Both visitors talked to us about the hot weather and the animals that live there.

We won the cup this week for the best lining up after playtimes! Well done Bumblebees!

Keeping Safe

We have been learning to keep safe. A visitor came to talk to us and he brought his bears called Bethany and Benjamin. The bears reminded us to hold an adult's hand when crossing the road, to wear bright clothes so that drivers can see us and to keep our seatbelt on when we are in a car.

We have also been learning to keep safe when we use technology. We learned that we should ask an adult if we would like to use many technology such as tablets, laptops, computers, cameras and phones.

We listened to a story about a penguin who made some safe choices about using his tablet and the Internet. Here is the website if you would like to watch it at home:

Happy New Year

We started the new term with a day learning about Irish culture. Mrs Sullivan told us about how her Irish family celebrate Christmas. Then we pretended to go to Ireland. We looked on the Internet to find out more about it and we found photos of a beautiful place called The Cliffs of Moher. We learned that many Irish people are Christians and that there are many churches in Ireland. We saw photos of Celtic crosses that remind Christian people about Jesus. We listened to the Irish Legend about a giant called Finn.

We made Irish soda bread.

We made Celtic crosses in clay.

We imagined and drew Finn's footprint. Then, we tried to estimate how many of our footprints would fit into the giant's footprint.

We pretended to take our caravan to Ireland.

As we reach the end of term .....

We remember making painted stones that we took to the war memorial. We remembered the people who have died in wars.

We have been on lots of wellie walks. We compared the lengths of sticks that we found. We took photos of things we saw like real explorers. We practised crossing the road safely too.

Recently, we have been getting ready for Christmas. We wrote letters to Santa and posted them. We pretended to be elves and Mr and Mrs Santa in our Grotto and we even learned some woodwork skills making this wooden Christmas tree. Our teachers were very proud of us when we performed in our Christmas show as angels and shepherds.

Happy Christmas everyone!

Our Reading Share Morning

Our grown ups were invited to our Reading Share Day. We shared lots of fun, early reading activities together.

We played Bingo and practised matching phonemes to graphemes.
We practised blending phonemes to read words using the interactive white board.

We read instructions about how to make an apple alien.
We read instructions about how to make magical play dough.
We read the word and did the action.

We dug for treasure and rubbish words.
We used puppets to tell the story of The Room on the Broom.

We made pointers like wands to help us point to the words.

We made Silly Soup putting in the objects that rhymed.

We pretended to make potions.
We read Nursery rhymes.

Children from Year 6 came to read to us.

Blooms Garden Centre and Bressingham Steam Museum

We had our first school visit. First, we went to Blooms Garden Centre. We had a Babychino drink in the cafe and iced some cakes. Next, we looked at and smelt some plants. We planted some broad bean seeds too.

Then we went to Bressingham Steam Museum. We were learning about things that are old and new, things that are the same and different and we were looking for numbers and graphemes that we have learned.
